How you found L'Abécédarienne: serendipity
What's in your CD player: random Asian Underground stuff
Comments: So my temporarily expat ass is in London and my British Asian graphic designer boyfriend is cleaning our
room and finds this "Hangover Remedy" CD, apparently given away by Mac User mag in the UK. So I pop
it in to look at the fonts. I think the name Abecedarienne sounds familiar, so I click on the website and lo
and behold it's Miss Amy! Hello from your fellow 4-Calendar Cafe camper. :) You shore got some purty
fonts there. I'm so glad your influence got to the UK...my boy thinks nothing original comes from the U.S.,
and that the whole of SF is merely one big orgy. ;) See you when I come back to CA, I hope...

Font that disgusts you: comics sans, the most used and abused font ever. Oh, and times new roman on screen is crap.
Fonts you've created: Moonie, Depot, Reckoning, Mr. Tate, Lucyville (awesome dr. suess font I made in 99)

How you found L'Abécédarienne: stumblin and fumblin through the old intro-net
What's in your CD player: The Thrills-so much for the city, HomeStyle-Twelve arms swinging
Comments: I make rad posters for bands so I use different fonts and combinations every day. My advice [to graphic artists] is to learn about display fonts and scaling, so many people have great art talent, but they are horrible with type and type layout. Cut out pictures of ads with font layouts you like and emulate them. Oh, and Bush is a jackass.

Most favored writing implement: My electronic pen
How you found L'Abécédarienne: I was lucky, it was chance, a gift from the gods
What's in your CD player: Here's where I give away my age...Carole King / Tapestry
Comments: Forgive me for posting this here but your email form did not respond. You can read this and remove it if you like. I won't be offended. Anyway, let the rest of the world know... Thank you, thank you, thank you! The evening was not a total loss. After searching through god knows how many #@%$@&* font sites, I came upon yours. I think I've downloaded your entire collection. Quality over quantity is to be admired. Mind you I own the entire Adobe Library so I don't impress easily. I've been a designer for a very long time. I have the stiches in my index finger and thumb to prove that I used to use X-Acto blades to do paste up and mechanicals with rubber cement in the "ol' days." How long have I been using the computer? (I know you didn't ask) I got on that band wagon as soon as it left the barn. I was set to buy a MacPlus but I waited for this new computer everyone was talking about called a Mac II. Rumor had it that this new super computer had a 40 megabyte hard drive, WOW! I beta tested a program called Image Studio which went on to become a little known piece of software called Photoshop. I used to use PageMaker to create illustrations. It was a good thing my client made doors as all I could create was circles, ovals, squares and rectangles. I tell you my background because I don't want you to take my compliments for granted. I know of what I speak. As someone who knew the meanings of words like fonts, kernning, points, etc., before the "masses" got their hands on computers, I have to say I was so disgusted at what people were creating and distributing. It's so obvious they've never bothered doing any research into the history of type. I've always believed one should learn the rules before breaking them so one knows which ones to break. Whether you have or have not researched is not the issue, you have talent and thank you for sharing that talent. Keep at it and let me know when you create something new. Feel free to respond if you like but it is not required. Sincerely, Paul Chepikian

Your fonts are all so gorgeous. I'll be back before the month is through and probably end up taking them all, or close. Depends on how much self-restraint I'm willing to exercise, and odds are the number is small.

Comments: Nice, relaxed, light-hearted site. Come read
some poems at the Bowfin Pond sometime.
(Google can find me.)
Fonts can be art, but there's all kinds of art.
Still, a nicely crafted set of letterforms can trap
your eye for hours on a page. So similar, so
different - what makes each face distinctive?
It's fitting that we call them "faces" and funny
how we tend to not see most of the things that
set each of them apart. How like us to think we
know them just because they seem familiar.
The superficial flash and swoop catch our eye,
visual "sight-bites" with little thought behind
them. We've been trained by signs and logos,
so we miss the skills that are more subtle in
typography. We don't know the originals from
the rip-offs, and don't care as long as
someone calls it "Hot" or "Cool" or "Techno" or
"Free".
Go for a walk. Get away from traffic. Watch the
birds. Look for insects. Notice the wind and
what it does with leaves. Imagine you're one
inch tall and see how big the world near your
feet becomes... don't get lost!
